Burj Al Arab: Living up to its promise
It was in the year 2000 when I first set foot in United Arab Emirates and since then Dubai has been my second home. As any resident from that time could attest, Dubai has had a huge and wonderful transformation especially when it comes to its architecture and infrastructure. One of the most iconic buildings is the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab, or “Tower of the Arabs”. It is a luxury hotel which stands on an artificial island. For several years I was just one of those admiring its unique beauty from a distance and wishing someday that I could visit and see its exquisite interior up close and personal rather than just looking at magazines, write-ups and videos about it.
One day, my friend Sharon and I decided to dine in one of its restaurants as you cannot just freely enter into the hotel to roam around and take photos. You need to have a reservation, official business, event or function to attend in order to enter its premises. It was pricey though, especially for me. But there was nothing more special than celebrating my birthday inside the luxurious Burj Al Arab. Indeed it was a wonderful experience and made even more joyous when I was presented with a free birthday cake by the staff.
We dined at Junsui, which means “Pure” in Japanese. This area is decorated and bathed in thousands of Swarovski crystals which offer an opulent setting for a stylish dining experience. As an added bonus to this remarkable evening, we then visited the famous Skyview Bar where we spent an hour having a drink and enjoyed the spectacular view from the 27th floor.
To me, it was indeed a wonderful once in a life time experience. For more details about Burj Al Arab, please click here.
