A visit to the capital of Switzerland
More on Switzerland, the country that I admired the most when it comes to spectacular scenery. It is a nation that has clean and beautiful countryside, nice people, as well as inspiring history. It is just to name a few of the reasons why I honestly love Switzerland. There is no better way to know more about this wonderful and rich country than to visit its capital city – Bern, even just for a day.
Bern is the de facto capital and the fifth most populous city in Switzerland. It traces its origins back to the twelfth century with much evidence of the medieval architecture from that time preserved in the Old Town. In 1983, the Old Town (in German; Altstadt) became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
During my day trip to Bern, I did a quick visit to the Einstein House now turned into a museum. I was curious to visit the house where one of the most brilliant minds had lived with his wife and son for two years, from 1903 to 1905. And it is here where he wrote the theory of relativity. As we are aware, Albert Einstein is commonly known for his famous formula, E=mc2, which is dubbed as the world’s most famous equation.
Kramgasse 49, 3000 Bern 8, Switzerland
I had a stroll at the lovely Kramgasse Street where the Zytglogge is located in its historic Old Town in the center of Bern. The Clock Tower (Zytglogge), erected at the end of the twelfth century, has become an icon for being extraordinary. It is one of Bern’s most important and photograph sights today. Built in 1530, the ornate astronomical clock with its moving figures serves as the city’s main clock.
Caption: This photo was taken from the Rosengarten, the city’s rose garden, located on the high ground above Bear Park. It offers a fantastic view of Bern’s Old Town from the right bank of the Aare River. It is a large park and to me it was a perfect place to relax and to have my snacks. I then stayed for another hour taking photos of the beautiful garden, editing and posting photos online before heading onto my next destination which was supposed to be the Bear Park. But in the end I decided not to visit the Bear Park, instead I went back to the Kramgasse Street. It was because I wanted to take more photos of the picturesque surroundings and to enjoy the moment being in this lovely place.
