A visit to the Land “Down Under”

Australia is one of the countries that I longed to someday visit and see for myself. I knew it wouldn’t be easy. I had to decide the best point of entry knowing its massive land area. I thought that there was no better way to start my exploration than at its largest city – Sydney.

From Dubai, it took 14 hours flight to reach Sydney. It was an exhausting flight which meant that as soon as I reached the accommodation I had to rest the whole night to recharge myself and make sure that I would be fully fit to start my exploits for the following day.

There were so many things to see and discover but for a first time tourist, I believed the perfect place to start my exploration was to visit Sydney Harbour.

Sydney Harbour offers a spectacular view of the city. It is the home to some of its main attractions such as Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera house. It’s probably where I spent most of my time when in the city. From the Circular Quay area you can either hop on board in a sightseeing cruise, which I did once. Or just walk along the bustling promenade. It is a perfect place for people watching, enjoying the beautiful views of the harbour and a great place for dining.

I thought my visit to the city won’t be complete without visiting the iconic structure and the city’s famous landmark, the Sydney Opera House. Not just to take photos of this remarkable building but to know more about it. So I joined a guided tour to visit inside the Sydney Opera House. Featherdale Wildlife Park: Unlike any other zoo in the city. It is known for showcasing only species indigenous to Australia. When visiting Sydney for just a few days, it is probably the best place to see up close with the famous Koala bears and kangaroos.

I also did a quick visit to Bondi Beach via a city sightseeing bus. It was a bit windy when we were in the area.  I remember we just had time for a quick snack which for me was an ice cream from a small shop to beat the heat while looking at the people enjoying themselves under the sun.

Overall, it was a fascinating experience in my first few days in Sydney – the first destination I visited in the land ‘Down Under’.
