The Louvre Abu Dhabi

Eid Mubarak to all my Muslim friends and to all Muslims around the world.

Eid al-Adha, is an Islamic holiday celebrated worldwide every year. Eid al-Adha is also called the “Festival of the Sacrifice”, commemorating the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his own son (Ishmael) as an act of obedience to what God has commanded to him to carry out as an offering. As the story is told, God stopped Abraham and provided a lamb to be sacrificed instead. A sacrifice of a lamp is a ritual that is commemorated every year with one third being given to the poor, one third to relatives and the other third is kept at home.

Eid Al-Adha is normally a long holiday. Therefore, most of the people, especially the working expats, take advantage of the season by spending their holidays either back to their home countries, or spending a short vacation to other places abroad. This year, perhaps it is a perfect time to skip from the scorching summer sun in the Middle East. As for me, my partner and some of my friends, we are destined to stay and spend the holiday locally; which is a perfect time to catch up and meet up with some of them. Considering the weather, most of us spend the time by leisurely visiting the malls window shopping, or do some indoor activities.

For us, it was a perfect time to visit the relatively newly opened museum, the Louvre Abu Dhabi that was established on 8th of November 2017. Just over an hour drive from Dubai, this state-of- the-art building is located on the Saadiyat Island Cultural District in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Louvre Abu Dhabi is an art and civilization museum that offers various collections of art and artifacts dating back from several centuries ago. Discover for yourself the fascinating treasures on display depicting the different cultures across the globe, as well as its many religious items from different faiths that it features. See up close and personal the works, particularly the paintings of some of the world’s greatest artists.

Visit the Louvre and you will surely love the place especially when you are walking through the promenade overlooking the sea with its impressive dome. This area is truly relaxing that will take you to another level. To me, it is a perfect place to refresh your mind after a long and educational exploration inside the museum.

The Louvre Abu Dhabi has quickly established itself as one of the must-see attraction in the Capital, and is well worth visiting when in the UAE.
