A short getaway in Tbilisi

Georgia is a country in Eurasia located on the crossroads of Eastern Europe and West Asia. Its neighboring countries are Russia to the north, Turkey and Armenia to the south, and Azerbaijan to the south-east. It is a land with a magnificent history and unparalleled natural beauty. According to Planet Doc, ‘although as small as Switzerland, Georgia is big in all aspects; a progressive nation, European in attitude and Western in spirit; a real Caucasian country with the joy of the Mediterranean’.

Georgia is a mix of modern and ancient, with numerous and significant ancient churches and monasteries to visit. It is a Christian country where the majority of the population practices Orthodox Christianity, primarily the Georgian Orthodox Church. According to Orthodox tradition, Christianity was first preached in Georgia by the Apostles Simon and Andrew in the first century.

With Josie in Tbilisi city center.

Honestly, it is a country that at first I never thought of travelling to, as I was not really familiar with it. But then I was glad that I did it with my friend, Josie. We had a fantastic time during our short visit to the country’s capital and largest city – Tbilisi.

Tbilisi is great place to unwind with its fantastic view and various cafés, restaurants, and bars to hang out. One of the things we did was to join a wine tasting activity to sample the local wine. It is said that Georgian winemaking is a very old tradition that dates back thousands of years and is a key contributor to the country’s economy.

I was stunned by the beautiful countryside especially when we did the water rafting in the Caucasus Rivers. This activity takes one hour and thirty minutes for the fifteen-kilometre raft ride down this river that lies within the Caucasus Mountains. To me, it was a perfect activity to bond with nature; an adventure that I would highly recommend to everyone visiting Georgia.
