Moments of Reflection!

I wrote this poem dedicated in loving memory of my dear Ate Betty Veranga, who sadly succumbed to Covid-19 several weeks ago.

The enormity and extent of this Pandemic may seem nothing to some people. Others insisted that this whole thing is a hoax manufactured by the mainstream media. That is why we see some people who are too complacent in their approach. They are even ignoring and discrediting the precautionary measures imposed by their local authorities on how to help curb the further spread of the Corona Virus in their communities.

I may blatantly say that until you yourself carry this virus; your family members, friends or loved ones are infected, or worst fall into its snare. Then, for sure, you will realise that indeed this disease is real and true – and deadly. The increasing numbers of reported cases and deaths that we see every single day are not merely Statistics, but accounts of real people. They are human beings, just like you and me.

As we all hear across the globe, the “new normal” is being imposed. The authorities are doing their best by keeping updates in providing the General Public with latest Information and Guidelines deemed suitable on how each and every one of us could help in mitigating the spread of this deadly disease, if not to completely put an end to this unprecedented crisis. And we are expected to do our part.

We, each of us are responsible and we know we can do our share. Let us help one another.

Wear mask and gloves. Wash hands frequently. Observe proper hygiene. Avoid crowded places. Maintain proper social distancing. Stay at home. Save lives!

We have to do what is humanly possible to stop this distressing situation we are currently facing right now. Above all, let us continue to pray.  We can only hope and pray for what is beyond our control. We may leave the rest to God. “ALMIGHTY GOD, THY WILL BE DONE.”

***

Ate Betty, I was left feeling so utterly deflated,
With the news that your destiny was so fated.
Hard to think that you are physically gone,
So sad to leave our next appointment undone.

A clueless Zoom meeting was our last farewell,
As the following week you’re not feeling well.
It does not feel real that you passed so fast,
But rest assured that your legacy will last.
I will surely miss you my Ate dear,
Your advice to me often given so clear.
Your stirring words I would often rerun,
Affirming to me, ”Kaya mo yan, Joan”.
Hush now Ate you’ll feel no more pain,
It’s the angels in heaven who will feel the gain.
Firmly believing with God’s wondrous grace,
Someday, I will see again your smiling face.

So long Ate Betty let’s say Goodbye,
For we will see each other by and by.
In Jesus Christ we’ve faith that in the end,
Departed & loved ones all will rise again!
